Quick facts

🧱 Never quoted directly

Unlike Mary, who speaks in Luke's Gospel, the Bible never records a single word spoken by Joseph — everything known about his character comes from his actions.

🐕 Guided almost entirely through dreams

Joseph receives at least four significant instructions through dreams (Matthew 1:20, 2:13, 2:19, 2:22), more than almost any other New Testament figure, echoing the dream-guided Joseph of Genesis.

🛠️ Patron of workers in Catholic tradition

Catholic tradition venerates Joseph as a patron saint of workers and of a peaceful death, largely because of his trade and his presumed quiet death before Jesus's ministry began.
